Content overview
In a business world driven by pressure, speed, and constant demand for results, leaders are taught to focus on performance, metrics, and control. Yet the greatest force shaping outcomes is rarely spoken about: fear.
In this powerful session for WOBI Members only, Peter Docker will challenge leaders to look beyond strategy and execution to the invisible conditions shaping how people think, decide, and act every day. Drawing on his experience as a Royal Air Force pilot and almost 20 years of working with senior leaders around the world, he will reveal how fear quietly narrows possibilities, slows learning, and limits the very performance organizations are trying to achieve.
Through the lens of Jumpseat Leadership, WOBI Members will discover that extraordinary results do not come from pushing harder, but from changing the conditions that shape behaviour. When leaders learn to ‘lead from the jumpseat’, fear does not disappear — it is transformed into trust, courage, and shared ownership, unlocking performance that pressure alone can never deliver.

Peter Docker is a former Royal Air Force senior officer who led during combat flying operations. At the age of 25, he was entrusted to fly senior government ministers, including the British prime minister. Today, he is a global leadership partner whose work focuses on making visible the forces that quietly limit performance inside organizations – particularly the role of fear and the everyday conditions people experience – and, importantly, what we can do about it.
Through Jumpseat Leadership, Peter and his team have developed the Fear Index™, a way of measuring how workplace conditions influence perception, behaviour, and results. What this work consistently reveals is that there is no lack of care, capability, or commitment. People want to do good work. They want to contribute. What limits results is intelligent adaptation – rational responses to environments that feel unclear, risky, or unsupported.
Peter now partners with leaders around the world to help them understand the system that produces their results and how to shift the conditions that shape what happens next. He is the co-author, with Simon Sinek, of the global bestseller Find Your Why, and the author of Leading from the Jumpseat – a practical guide to leading with clarity, courage, and shared responsibility, especially during times of uncertainty.
